How to Get Your Best Skin
Skincare can be tricky. No two people have the same skin and finding the right routine and products can be difficult. However, Ayurveda is here to make your life easier, so keep it simple when it comes to skincare. We tend to over complicate our skincare routine, but it doesn't have to be. Make your skincare routine a nightly ritual for yourself, and think of it as self-care. Remember, your skin is the largest organ on your body so you want to make sure you care for it. Here is the best skincare according to your dosha:
VATA
Vata skin tends to be dry, thin, and can be prone to early lines and wrinkles. Vata skin is also easily influenced by the season. Vatas need to be nurtured, so make sure you aren't using something that is very stripping on your skin. Try to preserve your natural oils on your skin as your protective barrier; that means no harsh gel cleansers or acne medication! The richer the moisturizer the better, Vata needs lots of moisture to prevent early aging on the skin.
Best oils for Vata: patchouli, rose, and vanilla
PITTA
Pitta skin has a lot of fire, so it is very warm to the touch. Pitta skin is typically sensitive and can be prone to acne, freckles, and moles. Pittas need a lot of cooling and nurturing products on the skin. Avoid harsh cleansers, and make sure to use a lot of sunscreen, especially if you're going to be in the sun to avoid any prolonged sun damage.
Best oils for Pitta: sandalwood, peppermint, and lavender
KAPHA
Kapha skin is thick, oily and can be prone to breakouts. Kapha skin tends to have more congestion, but are less prone to lines and wrinkles due to the thickness of their skin. Kapha skin can handle a cleanser that is more stripping and should exfoliate 1-2x per week. A light moisturizer is sufficient for kapha skin.
Best oils for Kapha: bergamot, lavender, and tea tree
Tips for all skin types:
-ALWAYS cleanse and moisturize your skin before bedtime. Our skin rejuvenates itself during our sleep so it's important to have a fresh, cleansed face
-Beautiful skin comes from the inside out. Eat as clean of foods as possible
-Start your day with a cup of warm lemon water to flush out toxins in the body
-Read your skincare ingredients! Use quality products and try to avoid harsh chemicals from drugstore skin products
-KEEP IT SIMPLE! Don't over complicate your routine by buying tons of new toners, serums, and exfoliants that you know you won't use. Start by cleansing and moisturizing EVERY night and if you want to incorporate treatment products do it one at a time
